Distance Learning — The S.E.L.F. Guided School of Spiritual Psychology |
We are passionate about the holistic
education we provide and about its accessibility through the unique
combination of resources we provide to students. |
| |
Students anywhere in the world can
complete most SSP certificate and academic degree program requirements by
listening to class audio tapes, reading required material, completing
individual and interactive exercises, papers and projects and getting
feedback and mentoring from faculty via e-mail and phone. When in
person educational modules are necessary, they can be completed at affiliated
sites worldwide or with local experts in the field. |
Our program courses are offered in
S.E.L.F. Guided formats with or without mentoring.
They provide for guidance and support from SSP faculty members, and the possibility of
stimulating interaction with fellow learners and professionals worldwide. |

S.E.L.F.
Guided Home Study |
S.E.L.F. represents a Source Engaging
Life Focused form of study. Learners work with time tested holistic
educational materials (since 1980) at their own pace, consciously invoking
and engaging the help of their inner Source. |
The work is focused on enhancing life
skills and fostering spiritual awakening.
The courses teach a psychology which endorses the spiritual foundation
of our psyche and a spirituality which is practically applicable to improving
the quality of our everyday life. |
The course materials are clear,
integrated, in-depth and presented in a manner that is experiential. The heart and body are being engaged as
well as the mind in this whole person approach. |

Bring
the Class to You |
CDs or Audiotapes of actual classes are
listened to so that each student gets a feel of being in a collaborative
learning atmosphere. The spontaneous
reactions and questions of other students help spark creativity. Videotapes/DVDs are used when the physical
demonstration of exercises is necessary to model their usage. |
* Auditory mode of presentation. Research demonstrates that the more sensory modalities are used in learning, the more lasting and effective it becomes.
* Ready reference. CDs and audiotapes can be replayed and referred to repeatedly. This is praised by many participants as a valuable asset.
* Group continuity. The same group is followed on tape over many courses, giving familiarity with a variety of participants and a perspective on their long-term progress.
Videotapes/DVDs are used when the physical demonstration of exercises is necessary to model their usage.
* Modeling of exercises. The visual modeling along with verbal instruction maximizes the use of experiential course material and is an integral part of the body/mind learning. Videotapes/DVDs can be referred to again and again.
* Class by class progression. The videotapes/DVDs are made specifically for each course and follow the curriculum class by class.
Learners participate in class exercises
much the same as students in the seminar room. They receive not only the benefit of the instructor’s
knowledge, but also the means to tap into their own cellular wisdom. This is the basis of true education,
reaffirming our connection to the wisdom of the Source of universal knowledge
within us. |
Multiple
Educational Options |
Learners may take the courses on their
own for their personal education and transformation. They may also elect to do the written
assignments and get the feedback of a faculty mentor. In addition, they may elect to apply their
courses toward Professional Continuing Education, a School of Spiritual Psychology
Certificate Program or an Academic Degree through Akamai University. |
Skills Needed Step-by-step instructions are provided for students. Those with access to email and basic computer skills will receive Course Worksheets as documents which can be completed and returned to the instructor for feedback. No special expertise is required. Students collaborate with the instructor to create a timeline for each course. An ability to schedule one's study time and to complete assignments is needed to successfully engage in distance learning.
Individual Courses Learners may take individual Distance Learning courses with the instructor's approval without making application to the Certificate or Academic Degree Programs. Admission to either Program requires formal application (see Admissions). If you are not in either Program, include a brief statement about your preparation to take the course for which you are registering and/or contact the SSP to inquire about the appropriateness of individual courses for you. |

Past
Credit |
Those who have already taken the
Personal Integration Program onsite and who wish to do the written
assignments necessary to get academic credit for their work will find this an
excellent way to accomplish the task course by course at their own pace. |

SPY 771–779: Advanced Readings in Spiritual Psychology (3 credits) This course provides students with opportunities for directed study covering advanced aspects of spiritual psychology. All psychological schools eventually must confront the fundamental question of the nature of the self. Jnana Yoga is the ancient system of insight that promises liberation through this very process. It has been expressed most vividly in the last century by the Indian sage Ramana Marharshi and the philosopher Krisnamurti. Recently Eckhart Tolle has presented these essential ideas in his entirely modern book, "The Power of Now." This course will examine these writings as a means of investigating the nature of consciousness and the path to freedom from the mind. The study and practice of Jnana Yoga can be investigated in depth or compared to another approach of one's own choosing (e.g., breathwork, bioenergetics, Enneagram, shamanism). [Faculty: George Catlin, Ph.D.] This is a new course taught by George Catlin, Ph.D., of Carthage College
